Saudi Maritime 2010 Concludes its Deliberations

The Saudi Maritime 2010 concluded its deliberations recently. The event was held in Jeddah Province during the period 30, may - 1, June, 2010. under the theme (Expanding Your International Trade Network) and was attended by experts of ports and sea transport industry from around the world.
HRH Prince Mishaal bin Majed bin Abdul Aziz, governor of Jeddah opened the Forum on Sunday 30, May, 2010. The opening ceremony included a speech by Dr. Jubara Al-Suraisry, Minister of Transport and chairman of the board of Saudi Ports Authority. In his speech the minister underlined that ports are the world trade gate to the Kingdom, adding that the Ports Authority is working for developing the ports to have them reach the highest level of efficiency in operation and management.
He noted that studies are underway for establishing a new port on the red sea to support Jeddah Islamic Port. He added that work is in progress for setting up a ninth port in Ras Azzour mining area. He explained that the matter is not the number of ports but the need for them. (Whenever there is a need to set up new ports, the government will not hesitate in setting them up,) the minister pointed out.
The Saudi minister of transport reaffirmed that the second Saudi Maritime 2010 and other similar specialized events are part of the efforts aiming at developing sea transport industry, adding that the Saudi government is keen to develop Saudi economy, infrastructure and areas associated with them.
Meanwhile, presentation of papers for this event began on Monday 31, May,2010. The first paper was presented by Dr. Khaled Bubshait, President of the Saudi Ports Authority under the title (The Global Financial Crisis and its Impact on Saudi Economy and Ports.) The paper summarized the global financial crisis, Saudi ports strategy for dealing with this crisis, and indicators of some improvements in the international economy. The paper concluded with a future outlook for developing Saudi ports.
A number of other papers addressed the modern ways for operating ports and container terminals, tools of analyzing and studying sea trade market as well as developments in oil and gas tankers and passengers vessels.
