33.5 Million Tonnes handled during First Quarter of 2010

The total tonnage handled in all Saudi Ports during the first quarter of 2010 reached around 33.5 Million Tonnes, with a increased of 3.43% over the same period of the previous year ( Imports increased by 24.72%, Exports decreased 8.27% ). Jeddah Port, made the biggest increase with 16.68%, and took the biggest share of cargo (10.19 M) mostly containers, food, construction materials and general cargo. King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam came second among the commercial ports in volume (5.38 M) with (23.14%) growth King Fahad Industrial Ports in Jubail and Yanbu handled 10.6 M and 5.9 M respectively, mostly Petrochemicals and refined products. Containers increased in units (TEU) by 14.26%. By the end of March, 2010 Saudi Ports handled around 1.15 M TEU. Transshipment continued its growth with 369,735 TEU (19.10% increase). Jeddah is the main transshipment port.
