Launch of regular Shipping Route from Jubail Commercial Port to the Far East Ports
Article Image February 15, 2010

Jubail commercial Port received on Thursday February 11, 2010, Al Deerah, the giant 4th generation container vessel which is 276 meter long with a load of 4106 TEUs. This visit is the first regular journey of the shipping route of the United Arab Shipping Company (UASC) from Jubail Commercial Port to the ports of the Far East. The launch of this route will reduce arrival time of containers to importers as the containers will be delivered directly to its final destination instead of using small Feeder container vessels.
The launching of this line comes in response to the increasing demand for the use of the Port's container terminal by Jubail Industrial Complex companies as well as other companies. It also coincides with the expansion and developing works of the container terminal currently being carried by the Saudi Ports Authority within the framework of investments via the leasing of the terminal. The expansion process is expected to be completed this year and will increase the terminal operation capacity to 1,000,000 TEUs annually in the first phase, to cope with the demand volume of using the port according to forecasted indicators in this regard. Within these arrangements also, work is in progress for expansion and deepening of berths 11 to 16 to enable the port receive giant container vessels.
