Container Handling at Jubail Commercial Port up 28.4%
February, 2,2010
Container volumes at Jubail Commercial Port have reached 97,048 TEUs in 2009 compared to 75591 TEUs in 2008, recording an increase of 28.4%.
The director general of the Port, Captain Fahad bin Ahmed Al-Amer expected the increase in container handling to continue during 2010. The company operating the container, Ro-Ro terminal and cargo berths at the port is currently working on an expansion of the container terminal. The work includes the addition of two berths, thus making the berths 1000 meter long and 14 meter deep. Three Super Post Pamamax cranes of a capacity of 65 tons and five RTG yard cranes of a capacity of 65 tons, which will increase the handling capacity of the container terminal to million TEUs per annum, will be supplied during the first half of this year (2010).
