31/1/2010
The board of Saudi Ports Authority held a meeting on Saturday January 31, 2010 (15/2/1431) at the Authority's headquarters in Riyadh. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Jubara Al-Suraisry, Minister of Transport and chairman of the Board.
At the outset of the meeting, the Board expressed congratulations to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz, Prince Naif bin Abdul Aziz, second deputy premier and Interior Minister as well as the Saudi people for the safe return of Crown Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz, deputy premier, Minister of Defense and Aviation and Inspector General.
The Board expressed its deep thanks and gratitude to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz, Crown Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz, deputy premier, Minister of Defense and Aviation and Inspector General and Prince Naif bin Abdul Aziz, second deputy premier and Interior Minister for the budget allocated this year to the Saudi Ports Authority within the new 2010 State's budget. The Authority was allocated more than SR1490 million for the development of ports and building new terminals. The Board said that this would help in upgrading trade traffic and would enable the Saudi Ports Authority to move ahead in the execution of its plans for developing the ports and maintaining the distinguished position occupied by the Saudi ports among international sea ports and at the same time enhancing the Authority's regional and global competitive capabilities.
The Board then reviewed revenues of the past fiscal year 2009. These revenues have reached SR2,800,000,000. The board also reviewed the new projects approved within the Authority's budget and progress in existing projects. It underscored the follow-up of the execution of these projects in a through and sincere way and the keenness of their completion in the set time.
The Board appreciated the efforts exerted by the Kingdom's delegation to 26th session of the General Assembly of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), which was held in London from January 2010. During this meeting the Kingdom was elected member of the Organization's board for the year 2010/2011. The Kingdom's delegation to this meeting comprised officials from the Ministry of Transport, the Saudi Ports Authority and other concerned sectors.
The Board reviewed topics on its agenda and took appropriate decisions, including the following:
First: Approved the Authority's final account for the fiscal year 2008.
Second: Approved the appointment of an external auditor to audit the Saudi Ports Authority for the fiscal year 2009.
