  • Eng. Abdulaziz Al-Tuwaijri, appointed as President of Saudi Ports Authority

    The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah Ibn Abdulaziz Al Saud issued today a royal decree relieving Dr. Khalid bin Ahmed bin Abdulrahman Bubshait, the President of Saudi Ports Authority from his post, and appointing Eng. Abdulaziz bin Mohammed bin Nasser Al-Tuwaijri, as President of Saudi Ports Authority at an excellent rank.  

  • 72.7 Million Tonnes handled during First half of 2010

    The total tonnage handled in all Saudi Ports during the first half of 2010 reached around 72.7 Million Tonnes, with an increase of 6.88% over the same period of the previous year ( Imports increased by 24.17%, Exports decreased 4.12% ).

     

  • Saudi Maritime 2010 Concludes its Deliberations

    The Saudi Maritime 2010 concluded its deliberations recently. The event was held in Jeddah Province during the period 30, may - 1, June, 2010. under the theme (Expanding Your International Trade Network) and was attended by experts of ports and sea transport industry from around the world.

  • Saudi Ports Authority to raise JIP, Dammam Ports capacities to 8.5 million TEUs annually

    President of the Saudi Ports Authority D. Khaled Bubshait has expected the capacity of Jeddah Islamic Port (JIP) to reach 7.5 TEUs per year in the coming period. He underlined that this comes within the horizontal and vertical expansion plan undergoing by the Port. He added that the Saudi Ports Authority is working to cope with the logistic traffic at the Port as a committee representing the Ministry of Transportation, the traffic department, JIP and Jeddah Municipality has been established to identify the proper mechanism to face this increase in traffic and the bridges to be built. (We have a future plan for this), he said.

    Following a successful Ports & Maritime Forum in 2008, The inaugural Maritime Saudi Arabia 2010, will be held in Jeddah from May 30 to June 1, at the Jeddah Hilton. Maritime Saudi Arabia 2010 will bring together the international maritime community with leading figures from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s ports and shipping industry. International visitors will have the opportunity to see firsthand the many ports & transportation developments happening in the Kingdom.  

  • 33.5 Million Tonnes handled during First Quarter of 2010

    The total tonnage handled in all Saudi Ports during the first quarter of 2010 reached around 33.5 Million Tonnes, with a increased of 3.43% over the same period of the previous year ( Imports increased by 24.72%, Exports decreased 8.27% ). Jeddah Port, made the biggest increase with 16.68%, and took the biggest share of cargo (10.19 M) mostly containers, food, construction materials and general cargo. King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam came second among the commercial ports in volume (5.38 M) with (23.14%) growth

    Shippingchina.com, a website specialized in maritime and shipping industry has announced its 2009 global ports ranking. Jeddah Islamic Port (JIP) was ranked 19 among world ports.
    This questionnaire-based ranking is being conducted for the sixth year. The ranking is based on viewpoints of those working in shipping sector including importers, exporters, shipping companies and research centers in China, Hong Kong, Maco and Taiwan. According to this questionnaire, points were given to the different ports, based on the following elements:
     

  • Ras Al Zour construction is on schedule

    The Saudi Ports Authority (SEAPA) is currently on schedule to provide Ras Al Zour industrial development with a functional port capable of handling, among others, 6 million tons of Diammonium Phosphate, 440 thousand tons of Liquefied Ammonia, 1 million tons of Caustic Soda and 315 thousand tons of Alumina per year. According to the plan, trial operation would begin in August 2010 and the port will receive the first ship in December of this year.  

  • Launch of regular Shipping Route from Jubail Commercial Port to the Far East Ports

    Jubail commercial Port received on Thursday February 11, 2010, Al Deerah, the giant 4th generation container vessel which is 276 meter long with a load of 4106 TEUs. This visit is the first regular journey of the shipping route of the United Arab Shipping Company (UASC) from Jubail Commercial Port to the ports of the Far East. The launch of this route will reduce arrival time of containers to importers as the containers will be delivered directly to its final destination instead of using small Feeder container vessels.  

  • Red Sea Gateway Container Terminal begins trial operations

    President of the Saudi Ports Authority, Dr. Khaled bin Ahmed Bubshait has inspected the Red Sea Gateway Container Terminal (an affiliate to SISCO) at Jeddah Islamic Port. He was briefed on the Terminal's operation which began trial phase at the end of 2009.  

  • 142 Million Tonnes of cargo handled during 2009

    The total tonnage handled in all Saudi Ports during 2009 has reached around 142.30 Million Tonnes, with an overall decrease of 8.82% over the previous year ( Imports decreased by 17.11%, Exports decreased by 3.07% ).  

  • Ras Al Zour Port to start trial operations in August 2010

    The Saudi Ports Authority announced that between 50 to 60 percent of works on the new Ras Al Zour Port have been completed as 60 percent of the Port's water channel, which is 24 kilometers long and 175 meters wide, has finished. Work has also been completed on 50 percent of the Port's berths including three berths in addition to a fourth one designated for services. The port can accommodate ships of 50,000 tons deadweight capacity. According to the plan, trial operation would begin in August 2010 and the port will receive the first ship in December.  

  • Container Handling at Jubail Commercial Port up 28.4%

    Container volumes at Jubail Commercial Port have reached 97,048 TEUs in 2009 compared to 75591 TEUs in 2008, recording an increase of 28.4%.  

  • Dr. Jubara Al-Suraisry chairs Saudi Ports Authority Board Meeting

    The board of Saudi Ports Authority held a meeting on Saturday January 31, 2010 (15/2/1431) at the Authority's headquarters in Riyadh. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Jubara Al-Suraisry, Minister of Transport and chairman of the Board. At the outset of the meeting, the Board expressed congratulations to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz, Prince Naif bin Abdul Aziz, 

  • Jubail Commercial Port signs contracts for storage and export of three companies’ products

    Article Image President of the Saudi Ports Authority, Dr. Khaled bin Ahmed Bubshait has on Monday 16 November 2009 (28-11-1430H), signed three contracts with the following companies: - The first contract was signed with Eng. Saleh bin Fahd Al-Nuzha, President of the Saudi National Industrialization Company. The contract is for leasing an area of 35,000 square meters for storage of company's products and containers ready for export via Jubail Commercial Ports. Duration of contract is twenty Hijri years. 

  • 105 Million Tonnes handled during 9 months of 2009

    Article Image The total tonnage handled in all Saudi Ports during the first 9 months of 2009 reached around 105.19 Million Tonnes, with an overall decrease of 9.09% over the same period of the previous year ( Imports decreased by 17.98%, Exports decreased by 2.94% ).  

  • President of Ports Authority inspects Ras Al Zour Port project

    Article Image President of the Saudi Ports Authority, Dr. Khaled bin Ahmed Bubshait has recently made an inspection visit to the new port at Ras Al Zour on the Arabian Gulf coast, still under construction Bubshait was briefed on the progress of the project and by the consulting team supervising the project. Dr. Bubshait underlined the importance of completing the work properly in order to hand it over in due time as per schedule.  

  • 68 Million Tonnes handled during First half of 2009

    Article Image The total tonnage handled in all Saudi Ports during the first half of 2009 reached around 68.07 Million Tonnes, with a decreased of 8.68% over the same period of the previous year ( Imports decreased by 20.73%, Exports decreased by 1.02% ). Detailed figures follow:  

  • New Gantry cranes arrived at JIP

    Article Image Four new Super Post Panamax gantry cranes arrived at Jeddah Islamic Port (JIP) on Monday 10-8-2009. They were berthed at the new Red Sea Gate container terminal quay. The cranes were manufactured by ZPMC in Shanghai, China. It is among 10 similar cranes to be delivered to the Red Sea Gate Terminal (RSGT). JIP would become the fourth port in the world to have equipment with similar specifications. They are specially designed to serve next generation container ships that can carry up to 13,000 full size containers.
