Jubail Commercial Port signs contract with SABIC to provide logistics services for Emdad Project
Jubail Jubail Commercial Port (JCP) signed a contract with the Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) to provide services for SABIC's supply chain project (Emdad). The contract was signed on Tuesday 9-6-1430H (2-6-2009), by Captain Fahad bin Ahmed Al-Amer, director general of JCP and Homood Al-Tuwaijri, SABIC's Vice President, Audit and Legal Affairs.
The 20-year contract stipulates the leasing of a 360,540 square meters open yard outside the port's storage area. The area will be utilized by SABIC for building warehouses for bulk and containerized goods as well as storing packing and equipment items needed for this process. Part of the area will be used for storage of empty and filled containers to facilitate exports via the Port.

he total tonnage handled in all Saudi Ports during the first quarter of 2009 reached around 32.4 Million Tonnes, with a decreased of 11.39% over the same period of the previous year ( Imports decreased by 34.73%, Exports 1.44% ).

he total amount of cargoes handled in all Saudi Ports during 2008 has reached more than 154 Million Tonnes, with an increase of 9.06% over the previous year. This amount includes all types of cargo except crude oil. Jeddah Islamic Port took the biggest share of cargo (45.72 M) with an increase of 7.79% mostly containers, food, construction materials and general cargo. King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam came second among the commercial ports in volume (23.59 M) with (11.24%) growth.
